SAP is an application with a massive amount of data. It is very important that data is retrieved properly and in a useful way. Canned SAP reports that are out of the box will not be enough. There is always the need for Custom SAP Reports to meet a business’s reporting needs.
Two of the most popular SAP reporting tools are SQL Server Reporting Services and Crystal Reports.
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is built on the Microsoft stack. If your database is SQL Server, then you already have SSRS, and it just needs to be configured properly. The Custom SAP Reports them self are built with Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) and then deployed to the SSRS reporting portal.
SAP owns Crystal. Reports are developed in Crystal Developer and deployed to SAP. When Custom SAP Reports are published within SAP, security is managed by SAP.
